3 Reasons Why You Should Understand the Difference Between `NO` and `NOT YET`

Attitude is everything! The way we look at our live`s circumstances greatly affects our choices and decisions in life.

The year 2020 is almost over. It is already given that this year has slowed us down in the way we never expected. Many of our decisions and plans were put on hold, and perhaps many of them were left undone.

As we begin a new year with a great hope of going back to normal, it important to also begin with a proper mindset. And as far as our decisions and plans are concerned, part of having a proper mindset is the right understanding of the difference between NO and NOT YET.

One of the main differences between NO and NOT YET is the ability to wait. Ending your statement or declaration with NO or DON`T or HAVE NO, implies a lack of hope and waiting. On the other hand, if you add YET, it implies certain hope and your willingness to wait.

In this short article, you will understand at least three reasons why you should learn the difference between NO (NOT) and NOT YET.

1. It teaches you patience

Patience is a virtue. How many time have you already heard this line? Does it already sound cliche to you? Well, just like any other virtues, patience is a great virtue to be included in your attitude toolbox.

When you say: `I have no work`, it sounds as if there is no hopeful expectation on your part. But if you say: `I am not yet working`, it sounds that there is a sense of expectation, there is a sense of hope. When we finish our sentence without the word `yet`, we seem to limit our capacity and possibility. But when we add the word YET, there is an element of hopeful expectation. We tend to wait. We tend to become patient.

Maybe you are going through something with regard to your health or relationship or finances or career. Just keep declaring.

Don`t say: I don`t have a boyfriend. Instead, say: I don`t have a boyfriend YET.

Don`t say: I have no money. Instead, say: I don`t have money YET.

Don`t say: I am not successful. Instead, say:`I am not YET successful.`

2. It saves you from troubles

When you learn to wait and avoid rushing things, you save yourself from troubles. Especially during this time, being patient while waiting will save you from troubles and unnecessary expenses. Imagine if you rush your travel from Manila to your province without patiently waiting for the updates and travel protocols, you will be surprised with the rules and regulations required for your smooth trip.

In the same manner, be it in you relationships or career, when you rush things without proper planning and waiting, things will turn out to be the things we do not expect. Imagine if you rush getting into a relationship and having a baby without planning and waiting, what do you think will happen? Imagine if you rush getting your dream job without proper preparation, what do you think will happen?

Again, the essence of saying NOT YET rather than NO is your ability to wait patiently. Learn from the many people around you who rushed things in their lives. Observe them. Ask them. And learn from their experiences.

This 2021, learn to work not just harder, but also wiser.

3. It helps you mature

One of the indicators of maturity is being able to wait productively. Waiting may be easy. But waiting productively is a bit challenging. Many people tend to lose hope or temper when they wait, especially for something that they really desire.

Waiting can help us mature. But how?

This is what we call productive waiting. While waiting for something or someone, we can do something that may help us grow professionally. For example, if you are one of the people who lost job and you are waiting for this pandemic to be over or you are waiting for things to get back to normal so that you can get back to work, while waiting, you can improve your skills or learn new skills. You may refine your craft. Or discover your niche if you haven`t yet.

You can always do something to make the most of your time rather than just spending all your day scrolling the newsfeed of your social media account and waiting for the sun to set. You can make your waiting time productive. You just need to be aware of what you need to improve or develop. If you are an aspiring photographer, then, you can watch free lessons on YouTube. If you want to learn how to earn money online, then, you can find tons of free materials online on how to do that. You just need to act. Do something while waiting.

So, while you are saying `I don`t have a work YET`, it is highly recommended for you to go and make the most of your time. Do not just stop there at waiting. You can do something while waiting. And the productive things you do while waiting will surely help you grow professionally.

Once again, the essence of the difference between NO and NOT YET is waiting. And for us, we need to learn how to wait productively. And when we understand this, we become more patient, we avoid more troubles, and we grow professionally.
